Mission
The Macomb County Health Department MRC (MCHD-MRC) mission is to strengthen the community by recruiting and training non-medical and medical volunteers that can be ready and able to provide organized assistance to the Health Department and surrounding communities in the event of a county-wide public health emergency, large scale disaster, terrorist event or disease outbreak.

Congratulations!
On December 5, 2013, the Macomb County Health Department Medical Reserve Corps received the 2013 Michigan Citizen Corps Team of the Year award at the annual Michigan Citizen Corps Conference in Traverse City, Michigan. The Michigan Citizen Corps is comprised of 345 volunteer teams from across the state that support and respond to community emergencies. The MCC includes the Medical Reserve Corps, Community Emergency Response Teams, Volunteers in Police Service, Fire Corps, and Neighborhood Watch.
The MCHD MRC received this recognition because of their dedicated members who volunteered more than 1,500 hours at more than 80 events, making the MCHD MRC the 12th most active MRC in the nation (out of almost 1,000 teams). The MCHD MRC receives emergency preparedness training to support the County during a public health emergency. They also volunteer at community events throughout the year such as flu vaccine clinics, Health Department emergency exercises, and first aid booths.
“Medical Reserve Corps volunteers play a critical role in the success of Macomb County Health Department’s medication dispensing events, emergency exercises, and other events throughout the year. It’s great to see their dedication get rewarded.” says William J. Ridella, Macomb County Health Department’s Director/Health Officer. The MCHD MRC partners with organizations such as Health Occupations Students of America, the Macomb County Homeless Coalition, Macomb County Chamber, Macomb County Emergency Management, and Community Emergency Response Teams in Harrison Township, Sterling Heights, Warren, and Macomb Community College.
